DRIVER ASSESSMENT

The driver assessment is a complete evaluation of an individual's potential to operate a motor vehicle independently. Services are available to persons with a wide variety of disabilities, including physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. The assessment begins with a clinical evaluation that includes testing in vision, visual perception skills, strength, range of motion, reaction time, coordination, cognitive processing and driving knowledge. Based on the clinical evaluation results, a vehicle evaluation is conducted to determine the type and level of adaptive driving equipment needed, and/or an on-road performance evaluation is conducted to determine a person's driving capabilities in a variety of traffic and roadway environments. The Center has a state-of-the-art vehicle fleet that allows the individual to operate the type and level of control systems to meet their specific needs. After completion of the evaluation, a complete written report is provided, including recommendations for vehicle selection specifications for modifications. Center staff is also available for related follow-up services, such as vendor recommendations, vehicle fittings and inspections, and technical information.
